Manufacturing Runs In The Family

9th September 2013

This summer Spirit’s long-serving Process Operator, Steve Colbourne, mixed work and family life as he showed the ropes to his teenage son.

Steve’s son, Christopher, came to Spirit’s factory floor to complete his work experience this August.

It was a case of ‘like father, like son’, as Christopher quickly digested his induction and got stuck in. During the 2-week placement Christopher was taught about the processes and machinery in the multilayer press shop. As well enjoying learning what his dad does for a living, Christopher got involved in other departments such the small quality electrical testing. He also shadowed his father as he carried out his daily tasks on the factory floor.

It was great for the rest of the team to meet Steve’s son, and although Christopher mainly shadowed Steve, he was embraced as ‘one of the team’ – and didn’t escape any of the factory floor banter!

In the 2-weeks that he was at Spirit, Christopher learnt an awful lot – he gained an understanding of materials and processes, got the hang of multilayer bonding, and left with a great deal of technological know-how! He really enjoyed his time at Spirit, and, like his father, slotted in effortlessly in the manufacturing environment – although his time included lots of hard work, we are happy to report that he was still smiling at the end of his placement!
